Hairdresser reveals the one thing they absolutely hate customers saying

No matter who you are, what type of hair you have, or how frequently you cut it, it's evident that many of us have had less-than-ideal experiences in a salon chair over the years.

Whether it's a seemingly endless braiding session, a color correction that doesn't feel quite right, or ending up with micro-bangs when you just wanted some soft, face-framing layers, it's safe to say we've all been there.

However, the occasionally unsatisfactory experience seems to be a two-way street, as one hairdresser has shared the one thing they absolutely cannot stand hearing from customers.

A TikToker and hairdresser, known online as @mobilestylisthubclub, revealed on the social media platform that fellow workers in her field aren't too keen on hearing a particular phrase when clients sit down for a haircut.

What is that, you may ask? Well, telling your new stylist 'My old hairdresser used to do my hair like this' as a guide for what you want might ruffle some feathers.

Instead of stewing in frustration, the hairdresser offered some constructive advice for other hairstylists, suggesting how to best respond instead of simply saying, 'Well, go back to them then!'

She recommended: "[You could] say, 'Rather than showing me how your old hairdresser used to do your hair, can you show me some images of what you're hoping to achieve, and I'll see if they will work with your hair type/texture?'

"Rather than getting irritated by the comment, say, 'I appreciate you may be nervous about having your hair done by another hairdresser, but you are in safe hands.' Reassure them and help to calm their nerves."

Good advice indeed.

She also noted that some clients might say something like: "It doesn't look like when my old hairdresser used to do it," and suggested that in such cases, you might not be the best match.

She continued: "Do your best to offer the best possible outcome, and politely explain that you may not be a good fit for each other."

She then encouraged other hairdressers to share their advice for similar situations.

One person responded: "I usually ask what they liked about how it was done before, or I’ll explain why I do it differently."

Another added: "I don’t see this comment as a problem. If they liked it that way, I would try to do it the way they wanted."

And a final TikTok user commented: "I don’t see this as an issue."

Well, the more you know, right?
