Wedding planner reveals four signs a couple ‘will divorce’ and people are not happy

Your wedding day is intended to be one of the most joyful occasions in your life, yet one wedding planner has observed a recurring trend over time.

She has identified four key indicators in the lead-up to the big day, which she believes are strong predictors of whether the marriage will endure.

Ultimately, it's about the marriage rather than just the wedding.

Robin Yarusso expressed her views on TikTok, and unsurprisingly, it has stirred up some controversy among happily married couples who claim they are exceptions to these observations.

Having planned 100 weddings and approximately 30 proposals, she notes these four things have repeatedly emerged.

It's well-known that weddings can be stressful, with all that time, expense, and planning culminating in one significant day.

Here are the four signs to watch for if you, a friend, or a loved one is about to tie the knot.

Cake smashing

This is a major one, according to Robin.

"The first thing is smashing cake in each other's face," Robin states.

"If you smash cake - I can't explain what it symbolizes - but somehow none of my couples who did that are still together," she cautioned.

However, not everyone concurs, and this point seems to upset most people.

"Ummm we smashed cake...I've been married 31 years. Plus, I'm a wedding coordinator/planner. Not all of these are accurate!" insisted one.

"We are cake smashers and celebrated 40 years on 9/14," stated another.

A few supported Robin's view, though: "My dad smashed cake in my mom's face after she asked him not to...they've been divorced for 20 years."

"My new husband hurt my nose and ruined my make-up doing this, even though I begged him not to, we divorced three months later," admitted another bride.

Budget disagreements

It's easy to let the costs spiral for the big day.

After all, just mentioning the word 'wedding' can cause prices to skyrocket due to the associated demand, time, and pressure.

Robin says: "If you aren't respectful of the budget but your partner is," it's a significant red flag.

"If I have a bride calling me on the side, saying 'let's add this to the flowers, don't tell Jim, let's do that', the 'don't tells' - those couples often end up divorcing."

Poor family boundaries

"If your mother, or the groom's mother, whichever one it is, oversteps and her child doesn't set boundaries, it often leads to marital issues," warns Robin.

This can create resentment and a feeling that one's partner doesn't prioritize them.

"Interestingly, it's always the mother who oversteps," noted one commenter.

"My MIL was difficult, but thankfully my husband stood up to her, and we no longer communicate with them," shared one bride on Instagram.

A 'checked out' partner

The last point is significant, says Robin.

"Finally, it's the husband-to-be who is indifferent about the wedding," she mentions.

"I don't mean the 'oh honey, it's your big day, choose any flowers you like', but when his sole task was to select the DJ and we're a week away from the wedding and he hasn't done it," explains Robin.

"That husband is completely disengaged."

Another wedding professional agrees with all of Robin's observations: "As someone working on the tuxedo side of weddings, she's absolutely right. We don't see the actual day, but the signs leading up to it are 100% accurate."

"I've been part of over 500 weddings in my career. She's spot on," added another.

One person offered a simpler suggestion: "People should avoid all the wedding drama and just elope."
