Bruce Willis' wife, Emma Heming Willis, has shared about the 'most difficult decision' she faced after his dementia diagnosis.
In 2022, Willis' family released a statement regarding the 70-year-old's health, disclosing his diagnosis with aphasia, a condition that impacts a person's communication skills and cognitive functions.
Later, in 2023, they revealed that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a rare type of dementia that affects the front and sides of the brain, impacting language and behavior, as per the NHS.
The Die Hard actor's family has shared snippets of his life since then and is actively working to raise awareness about the condition.

Willis' wife also discussed the topic during an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America on Tuesday (August 26).
In the interview, Emma expressed: "Bruce is in overall great health, you know. It's just his brain that's failing him.
"His language is deteriorating, and we've adapted. We have developed a unique way of communicating with him."

She further mentioned that she 'knows' her husband, whom she married in 2009, can still recognize her.
"I am certain he does. When we are with him... he brightens up," she continued, noting that he maintains a significant connection with his five daughters, two with Emma and three with his ex-wife, Demi Moore.
The model shared that The Sixth Sense star still 'responds' to attention from her and his children, adding: "He's holding our hands. We kiss him. We hug him."
She added: "And that's all I need, you know? I don't need him to remember that I am his wife, our wedding date, and such. I just want to feel that connection with him. And I do."

Besides discussing his personality changes and her response to his dementia diagnosis, Emma also talked about the 'toughest' decision she had to make concerning her husband's care.
Emma explained that she started to isolate their family and ceased hosting social events at their home for their daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, due to noise potentially causing Willis' distress.
"I wasn't sure if other parents would feel comfortable leaving their kids at our place," she continued. "I isolated our entire family deliberately... Those were tough times."

She went on to describe 'one of the hardest decisions I've had to make,' which involved moving her dear husband to a second, single-story home where he could receive constant care.
Emma assured that despite living separately, she shares breakfast and dinner with Willis every day.
Next month, her book The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path is set to be released on September 9, along with a documentary series titled Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey premiering on Hulu and Disney+ today (August 27).
