A sex therapist has revealed an unconventional masturbation technique that doesn't require the use of hands - and surprisingly, it offers several benefits.
That's correct - if you're in a hurry, you can indulge in some 'me time' without even removing your underwear, and there's no need for any elaborate sex toys.
This technique is known as syntribation, which involves crossing your legs and squeezing your thighs, often accompanied by rocking or grinding motions to stimulate the clitoris and vulva.
You might have actually practiced this long before you knew its formal name, as it's often the initial method women accidentally discover for self-pleasure.

By squeezing your thighs and contracting your pelvic floor muscles, blood flow to the genitals is enhanced, which increases arousal.
Additionally, you're indirectly stimulating your vulva and clitoris through muscle movement and pressure, which can even lead to orgasm.
So, why is syntribation beneficial?
Speaking to Women's Health, sex therapist Kimberly Thomas noted that there are indeed numerous advantages linked to syntribation.

First of all, it's ideal for individuals who are new to masturbation and may feel apprehensive about visiting Ann Summers to purchase a bright pink vibrator.
Thomas explained: "Syntribation is a safe way to explore your own sexuality, develop familiarity and comfort with your sexual self, and build sexual confidence."
The technique also allows individuals with physical disabilities that limit their ability to touch themselves to still experience sexual pleasure manually, the expert added.
Secondly, it's discreet. Although it is still a form of masturbation and shouldn't be done in public, it's certainly much quieter than your average sex toy.

For instance, if your roommates are around and you don't want them to know what you're doing.
Thomas added: "Please remember that those around you have not consented to be present while you masturbate, so choose more private settings."
While no specific studies have focused on mental health and syntribation, this technique falls under the category of masturbation, which is known to release beneficial hormones like dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin, while also reducing cortisol levels.

Healthline reports that sexual stimulation provides various benefits, including relieving accumulated stress, improving sleep, and enhancing mood.
Finally, the expert highlights that syntribation is highly adaptable and doesn't have to follow a specific pattern.
You can do it clothed or unclothed and even incorporate an object like a pillow to grind against.
Fellow sex therapist Rachel Zar mentioned to the publication: "If vibrating is too intense of a sensation, you can also place a pillow or folded blanket between your thighs to increase the pressure."

And it doesn't have to be done alone - you can also try syntribation with your partner, either as foreplay or simply by crossing your legs during sex.
Zar added: "Getting the blood flowing between your legs will allow you to be aroused and ready for increased pleasure right from the start."
